Postal Service Workers Deserve Insulation From Politics

Recent Events

The United States Postal Service undeservedly has taken heat from political figures. To what avail is to question political motives, but for the USPS and its workers, nothing stands taller than an honest day’s work. If funding for the USPS is reduced, it could debilitate the federal service, and put pressure on its workforce. Negative consequences are bound to occur. Postal workers already deal with a variety of injuries that could occur on the job. These include:

  • Repetitive Motion Injuries, which occur due to overuse of muscle groups, an effect from carrying heavy packages consistently, for example.
  • Dog Bites are infrequent but may still occur and can require surgery to repair.
  • Overheating or over-exhaustion, common in hot weather.
  • Trip and falls, which are inevitable due to inclement conditions, such as icy stairs and pavements.
  • Vehicle accidents

USPS Employs Essential Workers

To reduce the risk of postal workers facing serious injury on the job, the USPS must stand against political influence that may serve to cut funding, which may hurt workers through salary and budget cuts. Budgeting decisions that go into providing the safest equipment and vehicles for our postal workers are a priority.
